Close to Our Hearts is a book I designed and laid out for Behind the Book, an organization which brings authors into New York City public schools to help classes create books of their own. This book was the result of a collaboration between three eighth grade classes, for which they wrote essays about subjects which they felt passionate about and then split into groups to produce posters for some of the topics. The posters had a strong tactile element that I wanted to preserve, and which I then carried into the rest of the design.
You used to be able to see the entire book at the Behind the Books website, but as of Sept. 2022 they have retained only the most recent examples.
