I have extensive experience in the publishing industry, designing and typesetting books both for individual clients and for top publishing houses, large and small, such as Bantam-Dell, Bloomsbury/Walker, and Doubleday/Broadway. The titles I have designed cover a wide range of subjects in both fiction and non-fiction, including suspense, science fiction, and serious fiction as well as business, history, theater, music, reference, cookbooks, textbooks, how-to, current affairs, science, and biography. I have also designed and laid out several 4-color children’s books for Behind the Books, as can be seen on their website.
I can turn a raw manuscript into a printer-ready PDF, and I am also adept at creating clear, detailed design specifications (in both markup and composition order form) to pass on to a compositor. I am equally able to apply existing specifications to a new manuscript, or extract and apply a design from files for an existing book.
